About KCSS Radio

KCSS History

KCSS started out in 1974 in a very small space with a window that faced students walking to and from class. Originally a 10 watt transmitter that could only be heard on campus, we upgraded to 100 watts in 1985, and to 400 watts in 1998. Our 400 watt transmitter gave out in 2012, and we ran off of a 90 watt backup for almost a year before we received approval to install our current 6000 watt transmitter.

Our station has come a long way since those humble beginnings, and today we are proud to know that our FM broadcast reaches a large portion of the Central Valley, and our online stream can be accessed and enjoyed worldwide.

Community

KCSS is managed by student employees, and serves as a lab for two radio production courses taught at Stan State. This is what makes KCSS 91.9FM the “Valley’s True Alternative,” and the “Voice of CSU Stanislaus.” We all feel accomplished and proud to be part of this student-run organization, and to use our leadership roles to amplify student and community voices.

91.9FM KCSS is a non-commercial educational radio station based on the campus of California State University, Stanislaus. Go Warriors!
